This study introduces a multimodal platform for identifying senescent cells with greater precision by measuring multiple hallmarks in the same single cells. Using the R3200 Platform and CellCage technology, researchers link morphology, protein markers, secreted factors, and transcriptomic profiles in etoposide-treated cells and human preadipocytes. The data reveal that senescence is highly heterogeneous, with distinct subpopulations expressing different combinations of canonical markers. By avoiding reliance on any single marker, the workflow improves confidence in identifying truly senescent cells and connecting those states to underlying gene expression. This platform establishes a stronger foundation for aging, metabolic disease, and senolytic discovery research.
